DESCRIPTION:Seminar Title: The rhizosphere microbiome of dryland and irrigated wheat and disease-suppressive soils\nDr. David WellerResearch LeaderUSDA ARS Wheat Health\, Genetics & Quality Research Unit \nAbout the Presenter\nDr. David Weller is the Research Leader of the USDA ARS Wheat Health\, Genetics & Quality Research Unit\, ARS Location Coordinator\, and an adjunct member of the WSU Department of Plant Pathology. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in plant pathology from Michigan State University. His research focuses on biocontrol of soilborne pathogens\, the rhizosphere microbiome and metabolome\, and disease-suppressive soils. In 2003 and 2013\, he served as the Willie Commelin Scholten (WCS) Endowed Professor of Phytopathology. In 2004\, 2005\, 2013\, and 2023\, he was an OECD Fellow at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Dr. Weller is a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)\, a recipient of the APS Ruth Allen Award for outstanding research\, and was named “Research Leader of the Year” by the USDA-ARS in 2019. He has published more than 200 journal articles and reviews and has founded and directed the nationally recognized STEM outreach program “Pumping-Up the Math and Science Pipeline\,” which provided novel educational opportunities in science and mathematics to students in rural Washington communities.
