Visitor – Dr. Daohong Jiang
Daohong Jiang, professor of plant pathology and distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholar Program of the Ministry of Education at Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, Hubei, People’s Republic of China, visited the Department of Plant Pathology, Washington State University (WSU) on January 21, 2014. He was hosted by Weidong Chen, research plant pathologist of USDA-ARS and adjunct professor of the WSU Department of Plant Pathology. During his visit, Jiang also met with several other USDA-ARS scientists and WSU faculty, and presented a special guest seminar “Mycoviruses, hypovirulence and exploration to control Sclerotinia diseases” in the department. On January 23, Jiang presented a featured presentation on the same subject on mycoviruses in Sclerotinia sclerotiorum at the 2014 Annual Meeting of the USDA National Sclerotinia Initiative in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His research program focuses on pathogenicity and sclerotial development of S. sclerotiorum, and biocontrol of Sclerotinia diseases using mycoviruses and mycoparasite Coniothyrium minitans. His trip was jointly sponsored by the Department of Plant Pathology at Washington State University, Department of Plant Pathology of the University of Nebraska and the USDA National Sclerotinia Initiative.
