Plant Pathology at the CAHNRS Fall Festival
Plant Pathology Department was well represented at this year’s CAHNRS Fall Festival held on September 12. A team of plant path graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, led by David Wheeler (MS student with Dr. Dennis Johnson), actively and enthusiastically engaged and educated Fall Festival attendees on a diverse range of plant pathology related issues. Our grad students used live and dried specimens, including bacterial, fungal, nematode and virus-incited diseases, to illustrate and inform attendees of the importance of plant pathology to not only growers and producers, but also to consumers!. Our students generated a lot of interest and enjoyed stimulating conversations with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, administrators and local growers. Additionally, one of our students, Sean McCotter, won a competitive $1,000 scholarship (Sowmya won last year). Finally, not only our students represented the department and discipline in the most professional manner, they successfully engaged and educated attendees, and generated interest in plant pathology. Kudos to our grad students for the job well done!
