Graduate Student to Receive NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Stacy MauzeyCongratulations to Stacy Mauzey, graduate student in the department. Stacy was selected to receive the 2013 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.  This is the highest award in science for graduate students in the country.  The National Science Foundation (NSF; “received over 13,000 submitted applications for the 2013 competition, and made 2,000 award offers.” Last year the award was for $90,000 over three years.

In 2011, Stacy joined the department of plant pathology at WSU and is working under the supervision of Drs. Tim Murray and Brenda Schroeder. Her dissertation research involves identifying and characterizing a novel bacterial species. In addition to conducting research, Stacy has also become at active member of the department serving as Treasurer (2011-2012) and President (2012-2013) of the WSU Plant Pathology Graduate Student Organization.
