Fungus threatening bananas

The United Nations issued a warning Monday (April 14)  of a new race of  fungus that is threatening the Cavendish banana.  Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 has already destroyed thousands of acres of bananas in Southeast Asia and could  reach the Latin America within a decade.  Plant pathologist Lori Carris talks with NPR reporter Marcie Sillman of KUOW in Seattle about the latest threat to the most popular fruit in the world.  Listen to the discussion here.
