Faculty Delivers Invited Talks in South Africa

Dr. Mark Mazzola, Adjunct Professor in the department and Research Plant Pathologist with the USDA-ARS in Wenatchee, delivered two invited addresses at the Symposium on Sustainable Crop Production held in Stellenbosch, South Africa.  His presentations were entitled, BiochaMazzolaSouthAfricar as a tool for improving soil health and storing carbon – reality or myth? and Alternatives to Soil Fumigation for Control of Soil-borne Plant Diseases.   He also presented the seminar entitled Non-chemical alternative schemes for the management of apple replant disease to the Ceres Tree Fruit Grower Association and the Grabouw Tree Fruit Grower Association.  In addition, he presented the seminar entitled Orchard Eco-System Resilience to Pathogen Re-infestation in Response to Brassicaceae Seed Meal Amendment to the Department of Plant Pathology at Stellenbosch University.  During his stay, he conducted extensive meetings with graduate students and faculty in the department and met with scientists and staff at the Agricultural Research Council  Plant Protection Research Unit to discuss collaborative research programs.
