Dr. Shah Completes Visit to WSU

Syed Jawad Ahmad Shah, Principal Scientist and Plant Pathologist-Group Leader, Plant Breeding and Genetics Division, Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Peshawar, Pakistan, completed his one-year visit in the stripe rust program of Xianming Chen, USDA-ARS Wheat Genetics, Quality, Physiology, and Diseases Research Unit and the Department of Plant Pathology, Washington State University in February, 2015.  His visit was supported by Pakistan Higher EducationShah Commission.  During his visit, Shah conducted research for screening wheat germplasm for resistance to stripe rust, molecular mapping stripe rust resistance genes in wheat varieties, and incorporating stripe rust resistance genes into Pakistani wheat cultivars.  He also participated in testing fungicides for control of stripe rust and wheat cultivars for yield losses.  His research at NIFA focuses on epidemiology and management of wheat rusts and other diseases.
