Dr. Laura Davies joins Dr. Axel Elling’s lab as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Dr. Laura DaviesDr. Davies obtained her Ph.D . in plant nematology from the University of Leeds, UK under the supervision of Prof. Peter Urwin. During her Ph.D. studies, she investigated the role of auxin in the development of nematode feeding sites formed by the cyst nematode, Heterodera schachtii in Arabidopsis thaliana. Techniques including real-time qPCR, fluorescent immunolabelling and microscopy were used investigate cell wall remodeling and cell proliferation during nematode pathogenesis.  Dr. Davies is currently performing a functional characterization of effector proteins, which are secreted by root-knot nematodes and modulate host plant processes during parasitism.
