APS Pacific Division Meeting Wrap-Up

Message from Scot Hulbert, Department Chair:

As you have probably heard, the APS Pacific Division meeting was a huge success.  Probably the biggest attendance ever for a Pacific Division meeting and the venue was awesome.  Many thanks to the local organizing committee, Drs. du Toit, Inglis and Peever for all their work organizing it.

Congratulations to Dr. Inglis for receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Division! It was very clear to me that everyone at the meeting felt that the award was well-deserved.

Our graduate students really represented the department well with a bunch of really great presentations and posters.  This was reflected during the awards ceremony where Sowmya Ramachandran and David Wheeler took first and second place along with a favorite alum, Leslie Holland, who tied for first.  Swarnalatha Moparthi and John Weber were also awarded the top two spots for posters.  I should add that Zack Frederick, Lindani Moyo, Xuefei Wang, Sowmya Ramachandran and Cristian Olaya also received travel awards.

It was also fun to see recent grad, Jeremiah Dung, receive an Early Career Award. He is really doing well in his position in Eastern Oregon.

Thank you all for representing us so well. Especially all you graduate students for the excellent posters and presentations of your work. Watching you succeed is the best part of our job.
